Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 pre-made 9-inch pie crust (or homemade, if preferred)

For the Filling:

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or half-and-half for a creamier texture)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (about 8 slices)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyère work well)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prepare the Crust:
    • Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim and crimp the edges as desired. Use a fork to prick the bottom of the crust to prevent bubbling.
    • Blind-bake the crust: Line it with parchment paper and fill it with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 10 minutes, then remove the weights and parchment and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Make the Egg Mixture:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using).
  • Assemble the Quiche:
    • Spread the crumbled bacon evenly over the bottom of the pre-baked crust.
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the bacon.
    • Pour the egg mixture over the bacon and cheese, ensuring everything is evenly distributed.
  • Bake the Quiche:
    • Place the quiche in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  • Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the quiche to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions, if desired, and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can substitute the bacon with cooked sausage, ham, or even sautéed vegetables for a different flavor profile.
  • To make this quiche vegetarian, omit the bacon and add extra cheese or vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or bell peppers.
  • The quiche can be made ahead and reheated gently in the oven or microwave before serving.
