Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 can (15 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Make the Cake Batter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, cherry pie filling, eggs, vegetable oil, and water.
    • Mix until well combined. The batter will be thick and slightly chunky due to the cherries, which will give the cake added texture.
  • Bake the Cake:
    • Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare the Ganache:
    • While the cake is cooling, make the chocolate ganache.
    • In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter until the chocolate is fully melted and the ganache is smooth.
  • Frost the Cake:
    • Once the cake has cooled, pour the chocolate ganache over the top, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
    • Let the ganache set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the cake as is, or with a dollop of whipped cream or a few extra cherries on top for added garnish.
