Chocolate Crepes

Chocolate Crepes are a decadent and versatile treat, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. These thin, cocoa-infused crepes have a rich chocolate flavor and pair beautifully with fillings like whipped cream, fresh berries, Nutella, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Easy to make, they bring a touch of elegance to any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (plus extra for greasing the pan)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Toppings and Fillings:

  • Fresh strawberries or raspberries
  • Whipped cream
  • Nutella or chocolate spread
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Chocolate syrup

Instructions

  • Prepare the batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then mix in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let the batter rest for at least 30 minutes to allow the flour to fully hydrate.
  • Heat the pan:
Heat a non-stick skillet or crepe pan over medium heat. Lightly grease the pan with butter or oil.
  • Cook the crepes:
Pour about 1/4 cup of the batter into the pan, tilting it in a circular motion to spread the batter into a thin, even layer. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until the edges begin to lift and the underside is set. Flip the crepe gently with a spatula and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute on the other side.
  • Repeat:
Continue with the remaining batter, greasing the pan as needed. Stack the cooked crepes on a plate and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm.
  • Assemble and serve:
Fill the crepes with your desired toppings, such as Nutella, whipped cream, or fresh fruit. Fold or roll the crepes, then drizzle with chocolate syrup or dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • To enhance the chocolate flavor, add 1 tablespoon of melted dark chocolate to the batter.
  • Leftover crepes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently in a skillet.
  • For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend in place of all-purpose flour.
  • Adjust the sweetness by increasing or decreasing the sugar to suit your preference.
