Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup water, warmed (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the warm milk, warm water, egg, and softened butter. Mix until smooth.
    • Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
    • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Let the Dough Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the Cinnamon Filling:
    • In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Shape the Bread:
    • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 9×18 inches.
    • Brush the melted butter over the surface, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly across the dough.
    • Starting from the shorter side, tightly roll up the dough into a log. Pinch the seams to seal and tuck the ends under.
  • Second Rise:
    • Place the rolled dough seam-side down in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Cover with a towel and let it rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Bake the Bread:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Bake the bread for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
    • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
    • Slice the bread and enjoy it as is or toasted with butter, cream cheese, or a drizzle of glaze.

Notes

  • For an extra indulgent treat, drizzle a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk over the cooled loaf.
  • Add raisins, chopped nuts, or a hint of nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar filling for variety.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
