Ingredients

  • 1 lb high-quality ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté sliced onions until caramelized (10-12 minutes). Set aside.
  2. Season ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into two patties.
  3. Increase skillet heat to medium-high and cook patties for about 4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  4. Assemble each sandwich with one slice of rye bread, a patty, caramelized onions, two slices of Swiss cheese, and top with another slice of bread.
  5. Melt remaining butter in the skillet; grill each sandwich for about 3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
