Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Add room temperature eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients while alternating with milk until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the melted chocolate until fully incorporated.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow cakes to cool in their pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Frost as desired or enjoy plain with a dusting of powdered sugar.
