  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until just combined. Form into patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each patty for about 5 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Remove patties and set aside. In the same skillet, sauté more onions until translucent; stir in 2 tbsp flour to create a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in beef broth, soy sauce, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce, scraping any bits off the pan. Simmer until thickened.
  5. Return patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Let simmer for about 10 minutes on low heat.
  6. Serve warm with mashed potatoes or steamed veggies.
