Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Gel food coloring (various colors)
  • Candy sprinkles (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: Gradually add sifted flour and baking powder to the mixture, stirring gently until no dry spots remain.
  3. Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to prevent spreading.
  4. Shape the Cookies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick on a floured surface and cut out tree shapes using cookie cutters.
  5. Bake: Place shaped cookies on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Decorate & Enjoy: Allow cookies to cool completely before icing and decorating with candy sprinkles.
