  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Stir continuously until it reaches a golden caramel color.
  3. Use a candy thermometer to check the temperature; remove from heat at 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Quickly pour the hot mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top. Let sit for one minute to melt slightly.
  5. Spread the melted chocolate evenly with an offset spatula or knife.
  6. While still warm, sprinkle chopped nuts on top and lightly press down to adhere.
  7. Allow to cool completely at room temperature before breaking into pieces.
