  • 9 no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 15 ounces fresh ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce and herbs; simmer while preparing other ingredients.
  4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, beaten egg, half of the Parmesan, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
  7. Let cool for 15 minutes before slicing to serve.
