  • 3 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Sauté the onions and garlic until soft.
  3. In a bowl, mix heavy cream with salt and pepper; stir in half of the cheddar cheese.
  4. Layer one-third of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, followed by half of the onion mixture and one-third of the cream mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle remaining cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
