  • 1 medium yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in ground beef, breaking it apart as it browns evenly for about 8 minutes.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, pepper, and red wine (if using). Simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Adjust sauce thickness by simmering longer or adding water/broth as needed.
  6. Serve over al dente spaghetti and garnish with fresh basil if desired.
