Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork (or turkey for lighter fare)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for topping)
  • 2 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle to fit your deep dish pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, Italian seasoning, and breadcrumbs. Form small meatballs about 1 inch in diameter and bake on a sheet pan for 20 minutes until browned.
  3. Spread half of the marinara sauce at the bottom of the pan. Place the rolled-out dough over it, pressing gently.
  4. Evenly distribute the cooked meatballs over the dough. Top with mozzarella cheese and another layer of marinara sauce.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly. Remove from oven and sprinkle fresh basil on top before slicing and serving.
